Why visit

A scenic seasonal waterfall in the Kaimur Range near Sasaram, where water cascades over rocky steps into a deep natural pool. A popular monsoon picnic spot surrounded by forest, it lies close to its twin, Dhua Kund. The lush setting and cool spray make it a favourite weekend escape for the Rohtas region.

About

Manjhar Kund is a segmented, cascade-type waterfall in the Kaimur Range, roughly 10–15 km from Sasaram in Rohtas district, between Sasaram and Dehri-on-Sone. Fed by seasonal streams, it is at its most impressive during and after the rains, when water tumbles down the rock face into a large pool below.

The falls sit amid forest close to the twin Dhua Kund, and the two are often visited together. Access is via NH-2 towards the Maa Tarachandi temple and then an uphill forest route.

  • Safety note: The fall is seasonal and the rocks around it become very slippery when wet. Avoid bathing during heavy flow, keep away from the edge, and travel in daylight as the forest route is remote.

How to reach

  • By Air: Varanasi Airport (120 km), Gaya Airport (135 km) and Patna Airport (~155 km) are the nearest options.
  • By Rail: Sasaram (SSM) on the Delhi–Howrah main line is the nearest railway station (~10–15 km).
  • By Road: From Sasaram take NH-2 towards Maa Tarachandi temple, then the uphill forest road; hire a taxi or private vehicle for the last stretch.

Best time to visit

July to November, during and after the monsoon when the seasonal fall carries the most water.
