Telhar Kund Waterfall

📍 Kaimur, West Bihar, Bihar

Why visit

A dramatic waterfall in the Kaimur hills where water plunges around 80 metres into a deep rocky gorge, framed by dense forest. Reached along the scenic Bhabua–Adhaura road, it is a hidden gem for nature lovers and trekkers seeking solitude. The viewpoint offers sweeping views of the falling water and surrounding valley.

About

Telhar Kund lies deep in the Kaimur plateau, on the Bhabua–Adhaura road in Kaimur district. The waterfall drops about 80 metres from the edge of the plateau into a shadowed gorge, making it one of the tallest and most striking falls in the region. Dense forest, quiet trails and the roar of falling water give the spot a wild, unspoilt feel.

The fall is at its best in and just after the monsoon, when the volume of water is greatest. It remains relatively off the beaten track, so visitors should carry water and essentials and travel in daylight.

  • Safety note: The gorge is steep and the rocks near the edge are slippery. Keep well back from the drop, do not attempt to climb down during high flow, and avoid the area in heavy rain.

How to reach

  • By Air: Varanasi Airport (110 km) is the nearest major airport; Patna Airport (230 km) is another option.
  • By Rail: Bhabua Road (Mohania) railway station on the Delhi–Howrah Grand Chord is the nearest railhead (~45 km).
  • By Road: From Bhabua (~32 km) take the Bhabua–Adhaura road into the Kaimur hills; hire a taxi or private vehicle as public transport is limited.

Best time to visit

July to November, during and after the monsoon when the fall carries the most water.
