📍 Patna, South Bihar, Bihar

Why visit

Gandhi Maidan is one of India's largest public grounds, a historic stage for freedom-movement rallies and public gatherings in the heart of Patna. On its edge stands the Gandhi Sangrahalaya, a museum that tells the story of Mahatma Gandhi's life and his deep connection with Bihar through photographs, documents and models.

About

Gandhi Maidan is a sprawling historic ground in central Patna, long a focal point for political rallies, festivals and the Independence-era freedom struggle. It remains a beloved open space for the city.

On its northwestern edge stands the Gandhi Sangrahalaya (Gandhi Museum), established in 1967. Run as a public-service institution, it presents a visual biography of Mahatma Gandhi:

  • Photo and document galleries chronicling Gandhi's life and India's freedom movement.
  • Models and memorabilia highlighting Gandhi's work in Bihar, including the Champaran Satyagraha.
  • A library and audio-visual resources on Gandhian thought and philosophy.

  • By Rail: Patna Junction (~3 km) is the nearest major railway station.
  • By Road: Gandhi Maidan is centrally located and a major hub; city buses, autos and taxis reach it from all parts of Patna.
