About

Maner Sharif is a historic town about 25–30 km west of Patna that in medieval times was a leading centre of Islamic learning and Sufism. It is best known for its two dargahs:

  • Bari Dargah — the tomb of the celebrated Sufi saint Makhdoom Yahya Maneri (Kamaluddin Yahya Maneri, d. 1323), near that of his forebears.
  • Chhoti Dargah — the mausoleum of Makhdum Shah Daulat, built by Ibrahim Khan Kakar, Governor of Bihar, and completed in 1616. It is a striking three-storeyed domed structure with fine carving, standing beside a large stone tank fed by a well.

The shrines are visited by pilgrims across communities, especially during the annual Urs.
